Heterogeneous Catalysis is a subject of great industrial importance. Almost eighty per cent of the heavy chemicals are produced by employing heterogeneous catalysts at some stage or other. This is why it has become necessary to introduce the subject in the graduate programmes in Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The first few chapters are concerned with the adsorption phenomenon-physical adsorption and chemisorption. The next some chapters discuss some general principles of catalysis, catalysis by metals, semiconductors and acidic solids including zeolites and clays. It also presents the mechanism of some selected reactions. Various experimental techniques such as infrared and Raman spectroscopy, thermal methods, ESCA and Auger methods as well as NMR, EPR and Mossbauer spectroscopic methods for characterizing solid catalysts have been discussed in other chapters. The last two chapters of the book have catalyst preparation and the role of diffusion in heterogeneous catalysis. The author' principle objective in writing this book was 'No prior knowledge of catalysis is required and the book can also be used for self-study'.

The book is divided into nineteen chapters. The first nine chapters cover the theoretical aspects of Inorganic Chemistry from Atomic Structure, Molecular Symmetry, Chemical Bonding, Inorganic Solids, Coordination Compounds with special emphasis on their spectral and magnetic properties, Acids and Bases, Oxidation and Reduction and also Periodic Properties of Elements. Chapters 10 to 15 are devoted to Inorganic Chemistry of the Elements. Some special topics such as Atomic Nucleus, Organometallic Chemistry, Catalysis, Bioinorganic Chemistry and Inorganic Nanochemistry are included as separate chapters. The book includes sufficient number of solved problems wherever relevant, and also provides a large number of practice problems. It can be used by students and the teachers as a textbook and also for self study.

This book is a chemist's approach to the subject. Many concepts of solid state science have been explained in a simple lucid manner so that undergraduate students can read it independently. Some chapters have been rewritten for this edition and new chapters have been added. It is recommended to serve as a textbook for courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Malformation disease of mango (Mangifera indica) initially noted in patches in India has now turned into a global menace wherever mango is grown. The challenge posed by the problem attracted interest of Scientists from various disciplines, continue to do so, and will attract their attention until the problem is understood threadbare, and resolved. For a long time, due to complex nature of the disease, the cause and causal agent was both hotly debated. Only in recent years, the issue of the etiology of the disease has been resolved, epidemiology has been worked out to a large extent and silver bullet control measures have been replaced by IPM strategy based on the information generated on the physiology of pathogenesis and epidemiology of the disease.

This book, intended for the undergraduate students, may also be used for a first chemistry course. The emphasis is on the concepts of physical chemistry and how to obtain quantitative relations from the concepts. Representative problems are included at the end of every chapter. To reduce the bulk, the book avoids experimental details that should be covered in laboratory manuals. Some aspects, such as wave mechanical model of the atom, molecular symmetry, chemical bonding and solid state chemistry that are inadequately covered by most text books at this level, are discussed in detail to give flavour of modern chemistry.
